New Edge 530 and Edge 830

Coming next week are the brand new Garmin Edge 530 and Garmin Edge 830.

The two cycle computers replace the previous Edge 520 and Edge 820 models, keeping their main strengths while introducing many new features.

Let’s take a look at what’s new compared to the previous generation and at the main differences between the Edge 530 and Edge 830.

What’s new?

Larger display

Both Edge models remain light, slim and compact, but now feature a larger 2.6” screen compared to the 2.3” display of the previous Edge 520 and Edge 820.

Both displays are high-definition colour screens: the Edge 530 is operated with buttons, while the Edge 830 features a touchscreen.

New CPU

Compared to the previous models, the new Edge 530 and Edge 830 feature a faster and more powerful processor.

Improved battery life

Battery life has been increased up to 20 hours, compared to around 15 hours on the previous models.

New MTB functions

Some of the most important new features are dedicated to mountain biking.

Thanks to the new Flow function, Edge 530 and Edge 830 can evaluate riding smoothness and riding ability. With the Grit function, they measure the difficulty of the terrain.

With integrated TrailForks maps and new MTB dynamics such as jump count, jump distance and hang time, Edge 530 and Edge 830 become essential tools for mountain bikers.

Safety features

The new Find My Edge function helps you locate your Edge using your smartphone, while the Bike Alarm function activates an acoustic alert if your bike is moved.

ClimbPro

Thanks to the ClimbPro function, on a preloaded route you can see how many climbs are left, how many kilometres remain and the average gradient of each climb.

Altitude acclimatisation

By combining data from GPS, temperature, weather via Garmin Connect Mobile, barometric altimeter, heart rate monitor and power sensor, Edge 530 and Edge 830 can assess altitude acclimatisation.
