When it comes to running shoes, there is more and more talk of innovation, carbon fibre or nylon foils, engineered uppers capable of supporting the foot in search of the best possible fit, and increasingly reduced weights.<\/span><\/p>\n

But perhaps the most important question is: “what’s underneath?”<\/em>.
\nThe most significant aspect remains in fact themidsole<\/strong>, with the most modern materials used both to cushion the impact on the ground and to confer elasticity and reactivity during thrust<\/span>. <\/span><\/p>\n

Let us therefore shed some light on the various compounds used by the major running companies (in alphabetical order)<\/span>. <\/span><\/div>

<\/p>\n

BROOKS\"\"<\/a><\/h3>\n

The motto ‘<\/em><\/span> Run Happy<\/span>‘ <\/span>of the US brand<\/span> is indicative of <\/span>the running pleasure offered through different types of compounds and materials<\/span>.<\/span><\/span>
<\/span> Themost important ones are<\/span>:<\/span><\/span>

– the DNA AMP<\/strong>, which offers greater energy return<\/span> and elasticity<\/span> thanks to a poly<\/span> urethane foam<\/span>embedded in a thermoplastic film<\/span>. A compound typical of Levitate 5<\/strong><\/a> and <\/span>Ricochet 3<\/span><\/strong><\/a>.<\/span><\/span>
– the DNA FLASH<\/strong>, <\/span>the lightest and best performing, made with a<\/span>nitrogen infusion (<\/span>nitroinfusion<\/span>) in the<\/span> EVA-basedmidsole<\/span>.<\/span> The result is the responsiveness, but also the comfort, of Hyperion Tempo<\/strong><\/a>, Hyperion<\/strong><\/a><\/span>Elite<\/span><\/strong> 2<\/strong> (with carbon fibre foil) and <\/span>Catamount<\/span><\/strong><\/a>. <\/span><\/span><\/div>

Hoka’s<\/span>midsole<\/span> is certainly the most<\/span> significant and eye-catching aspect of<\/span> the French\/Californian brand.<\/span>
\n–Made of a super-light and at the same time super-cushioning EVA foam<\/strong>, it <\/span>ensures high stability thanks to the<\/span> Active <\/strong><\/span>Foot<\/span> Frame<\/span><\/strong>technology<\/span>:<\/span> the heel and foot are securely wrapped inside the<\/span>midsole<\/span>, almost like the seat of a racing car.<\/span> In addition, rolling is smooth and fast, thanks to the Meta-Rocker geometry<\/span>, for maximum running efficiency.<\/span><\/span>
– The lightest and fastest models, such as Mach 4<\/strong><\/a>, <\/span>Carbon X 2<\/span><\/strong><\/a> and <\/span>Rocket X <\/span><\/strong><\/a>(the latter two with carbon fibre plate)<\/span>, <\/span>but also <\/span>some from<\/span>trail<\/span> like the <\/span>Mafate<\/span><\/strong><\/a> Speed 3<\/strong> and the<\/span>Zinal<\/span><\/strong><\/a>,<\/span>exploit the<\/span>ProFly<\/span><\/strong> technology <\/strong><\/span>, which features a<\/span>midsole<\/span> divided into two parts. Themidsole<\/span> based on<\/span>AeroFoam<\/span><\/strong> Nova<\/strong> is featured on the <\/span>Synchron<\/span><\/strong><\/a>model <\/span>: more <\/span> durable and <\/span>with a greater impact-absorbing capacity than the classic <\/span>AeroFoam<\/span>.<\/span><\/span><\/div>

LA SPORTIVA\"\"<\/a><\/h3>\n

The case of La Sportiva is different, where the<\/span>midsole<\/span><\/strong> changes according to the various models, but basically <\/span>remains <\/span>always EVA-based<\/strong>.<\/span>A typical feature of the Italian brand is the<\/span>high<\/span>stability<\/span>of the footbed, even at the expense of<\/span> the <\/span> soft feel of<\/span>most of the models<\/span> (apart from <\/span>Karacal<\/span><\/a><\/strong> and <\/span>Jackal<\/span><\/strong><\/a>)<\/span>, <\/span>and the high grip<\/span> on all types of terrain.<\/span><\/span><\/div>

SAUCONY\"\"<\/a><\/h3>\n

The revolution that led to <\/span> the use of the<\/span> PWRRUN<\/strong><\/span>midsole<\/span> atSaucony<\/span> was d<\/span>eterminating to achieve significant improvements in comfort and performance.<\/span><\/span>
– Specifically <\/span>, the PWRRUN<\/strong> <\/span>midsoles<\/span> are characterised by <\/span>an update of the classic EVA foam, with greater energy return<\/strong> and durability<\/strong>.<\/span><\/span>
Among the most representative models are undoubtedly the Ride 14<\/strong><\/a> and the Guide 14<\/strong><\/a><\/span>.<\/span><\/span>

– As for the faster and more reactive models, such as <\/span>Endorphin<\/span><\/strong><\/a> Speed 2 <\/strong>(with nylon blade) and<\/span>Endorphin<\/span><\/strong><\/a> Pro 2 <\/strong>(with carbon blade), the compound used is<\/span> PWRRUN PB<\/strong>, <\/span>Saucony<\/span> ‘s most advanced cushioning material <\/span>. Composed of a foam made from a blend of polymers from <\/span>PeBa\u00ae, it weighs the same as EVA, but has a<\/span> higherenergy return<\/span>a to promote better performance<\/strong>. IN CONCLUSION<\/h3>\n

It is difficult to say which of these materials is the best. Surely we can become more attached to those <\/span>that give us the most pleasant sensations and the greatest return on energy. But, as is often the case, <\/span>it is impossible to make an objective classification, not least because of the constant innovation that all the above-mentioned companies are bringing to the world of runni<\/span>ng.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
