The HOKA Challenger 8 GORE-TEX are versatile running shoes designed to transition seamlessly from road to trail, offering protection even when rain, mud and snow make the terrain more challenging. This waterproof version of the Challenger 8 retains a neutral fit and balanced cushioning, with a design tailored for runners who switch between tarmac, dirt tracks and trails during the same run. The GORE-TEX Invisible Fit membrane protects the foot from water without requiring a particularly bulky waterproof construction. The upper uses technical mesh made from 100% rPET, combined with a 3D screen-printed toe cap to increase protection on off-road sections. Reflective details also improve visibility when running in low light. The EVA midsole features a greater volume of foam under the arch of the foot, offering protective yet sufficiently balanced cushioning to tackle different surfaces. The new last improves the fit in the forefoot and across the instep, whilst the 8 mm drop is greater than in the previous version of the model. The outsole has been redesigned with a new orientation of the 4 mm multi-directional tread pattern, engineered to increase traction on dirt tracks without unduly compromising smoothness when returning to tarmac. It is precisely this ability to adapt to different surfaces that makes the Challenger 8 GORE-TEX an attractive option for mixed routes and training sessions where road and trail sections alternate frequently. Weighing 255 g, the Challenger 8 GORE-TEX combines waterproofing, cushioning and grip in a relatively lightweight design. It is a shoe particularly suited to road-to-trail training in changeable weather conditions, when greater protection from the elements is needed without resorting to a more specialised and aggressive trail shoe. |
